My First Day of School

By Vera Kothari (Agd 9)

Hey there, everybody! I'm Vera, and guess what? I'm ten years old and starting my first day of real school after being homeschooled for four years. It's super exciting, but also kinda scary, and I want to tell you all about it. 1. New Friends (or No Friends): When you're homeschooled, you have your family and maybe some close friends, but making new friends in a big school is kinda scary. I hope I meet nice kids who want to be friends with me. But what if I don't? 2. Big, Big School: My homeschooling was all about learning at home and maybe going to the park for science class. Now, I'm going to this huge school with lots of classrooms and a big playground. What if I get lost? 3. Bells and Timetables: I'm used to a flexible schedule at home, but now there are bells that tell you when it's time to switch classes. I hope I can figure out where to go when the bell rings. 4. Tests and Homework: In homeschool, I did tests, but now I hear there might be even more tests, and homework every day! That's kinda scary because I don't want to get things wrong. 5. Dress Code: At home, I could wear anything When I learn. Now I have to wear appropriate clothing, and I hope I can remember to do that. Or I could end up in the principal’s office. 6. Cafeteria Lunch: Homeschool lunch was whatever we wanted, and sometimes, Mom made my favorites. At school, there's a big cafeteria with lots of kids, and I'm not sure what the food will be like. What if I don't like it? 7. Teachers: I had technology as my teachers before, and that was super nice. Now I have a teacher I've never met before, and I hope they're nice too. What if they don't like me? 8. Recess Rules: In homeschool, I played with my dog during breaks, and now there are all these games and rules on the playground. I hope I can find someone to play with and that I don't break any rules accidentally. 9. Riding the Bus: I've never been on a school bus before, and it looks so big! I hope I can find my seat and not get lost. Plus, what if I forget my backpack or something? So, that's why my first day of school is kinda scary. But you know what? I also think it's going to be a big adventure! Mom and Dad say it's okay to be nervous, and they'll help me. I can't wait to learn new things, meet new friends (hopefully), and maybe even have fun in a new place. I'll let you know how it goes, and maybe one day, I won't be scared anymore!
